Husqvarna has released concept images of an electric motorcycle based on the Svartpilen and Vitpilen platform and named it, unsurprisingly, the E-Pilen. The ghostly silhouette shows an obvious family resemblance although it would have been good to have charged the batteries on those lights so more illumination could be shed on the bike itself. Apart from the fact that the bike doesn’t appear to have a muffler and has “E-Pilen” embossed on the back of the seat, very little is obvious about the details. But that is often the purpose of these concept images.

Husqvarna claims that the bike will feature an 8 kW output and have a range of 60 miles with an interchangeable battery pack for quick replacement of a dead battery (Husqvarna along with parent company KTM have joined the consortium committed to universal sizing and standards for interchangeable batteries across brands).
The claimed numbers indicate an obvious urban confinement for the little machine and to meet the expected demand Husqvarna will build a stronger dealer network in urban areas – and interesting challenge for a manufacturer with a strong off-road and competition stable.

There is however the previously mentioned Svartpilen and Vitpilen and the other motorcycle the company was teasing the world with, the Norden 901, that will find a receptive urban customer base so perhaps urban is a growth opportunity..
